David Jaffe Dumps on "Art Games"
Vocal War god Maker David Jaffe thinks art games are "smoke and mirrors b*llshit" and that gift them accolades for showing off the potential of the medium is ultimately harmful to "intense games."
The "game every bit artistic production" debate has been raging for ages, sometimes as a serious discussion, sometimes as evenhanded a matter to kick about during slow up times along a assembly. The problem in Jaffe's mind is that as long equally people keep falling for the "weed and mirrors bullshit" of games that trumpet themselves as art, any actual growth of the intermediate will constitute stunted because developers will buy into the story that they've already "arrived" as artists. "To be going on and on about how games deman to comprise/can be/should be/already are 'more' than 'just games' to me disrespects the joy and felicity traditional games bring to the world."
Believe it surgery not, that's just a small try out of Jaffe's argument, the whole of which goes into much greater depth and makes some very fascinating points along the way. I take issue only; I think that by trumpeting the potentiality of the culture medium, we ultimately attract new artists who crusade New frontiers, and that encourages innovation, non stagnation.
